La diatomite (ou C\u00e9lite) est de bonne qualit\u00e9 et permet des usages valorisants, c\u2019est une roche s\u00e9dimentaire l\u00e9g\u00e8re, poreuse et siliceuse permettant des usages int\u00e9ressants, l\u2019usine purifie le mat\u00e9riau et le conditionne en fonction des usages. style=\"font-size: medium;\">La montagne d\u2019Andance est un petit \u00ab\u00a0ilot\u00a0\u00bb volcanique proche du massif du Coiron dont il partage l\u2019histoire (volcanisme mioc\u00e8ne avec \u00e9panchements basaltiques suivi d\u2019une inversion de relief acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9e par la crise messinienne). Sur cet emplacement une importante explosion phr\u00e9atomagmatique a g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 un crat\u00e8re d\u2019explosion (maar) il y a environ 8 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es, celui- ci a rapidement \u00e9t\u00e9 occup\u00e9 par un lac dans lequel, avec des conditions favorables, des diatom\u00e9es ont pu prolif\u00e9rer et se d\u00e9poser pour constituer un d\u00e9p\u00f4t dont l\u2019\u00e9paisseur d\u00e9passe 50 m\u00e9tres. Pus tard vers 6.5 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9e d\u2019importantes coul\u00e9es basaltiques ont recouverts ces d\u00e9p\u00f4ts , les compactant et les prot\u00e9geant de l\u2019\u00e9rosion.
